School-Based Oral Health Program

Tooth Academy Logo.png

Poor oral health can have a detrimental effect on a child's quality of life, school performance, and success later in life. Cavities are preventable, and ensuring that students have the preventive oral health services they need in school is an important way to help them stay healthy and ready to learn.

Mountain Community Health Partnership (MCHP) is excited to offer school-based dental services to Yancey/Mitchell County Schools students for the upcoming year. We will come to your child's school to provide dental exams, cleanings, fluoride treatments, x-rays, and sealants.

During the visit, your child will meet Dr. David DuBois and Chelsea

Mckinney, Dental Hygienist. They will examine your child's mouth,

teeth, and gums and discuss ways to improve oral health. They

will also recommend follow-up appointments for future care

if needed with either MCHP or your child's regular dentist.

Your child does not have to be an MCHP patient in order

to receive these services. Your child may receive these

services even if they already have a dentist, and records

may be shared as desired. The school-based dental clinic

aims to provide fast, convenient preventive dentistry without

the child or parent losing time at school or work.

These services may be billed to your child's dental insurance

provider (including Medicaid or NC Health Choice) or paid out of pocket with discounts available to qualifying households through our sliding fee program. Questions regarding insurance coverage or our sliding fee program may be directed to the Bakersville Dental Center.

If you would like to enroll your child in this program, please click the enroll button below. Completing all forms, including The Bakersville Dental Center Consent forms, Medical History forms, and Insurance Verification forms (if applicable), is required for your child to be seen. An additional consent for the application of silver diamine fluoride (SDF), a cavity-stopping treatment, is included but is not required.

We are excited to offer these much-needed services. If you have any questions, please call MCHP Bakersville Dental Center at (828) 537-5991 or stop by our office at 89 N. Mitchell Ave, Bakersville, NC 28705.
